Dr. Rachel Griffin on campus for IWW keynote
As part of International Women’s Week, Nipissing University welcomes Dr. Rachel Griffin to campus for a special keynote address on Friday, March 11, at noon in the Nipissing Theatre (F213).
Griffin, will provide an engaging presentation focusing on the prevention of sexual violence. Actively involved in the movement against gender violence for almost a decade, Griffin’s passion for gender violence advocacy is derived from her personal experience as a survivor.
An associate professor in the department of Communication Studies at Southern Illinois University, cross-appointed in Africana Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Griffin is a critical intercultural scholar. Her research interests span Black feminist thought, critical race theory, popular culture, sport, education, and sexual violence. She has published in several journals including Women’s Studies in Communication, Critical Studies in Media Communication, the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, The Howard Journal of Communications, and the Journal of International and Intercultural Communication. She has delivered well over 100 presentations on campuses and at conferences nationally and internationally.
Griffin was previously scheduled to speak at Nipissing in early September, in conjunction with the launch of the university’s NUperspectives campaign, but was unable to travel due to inclement weather. Event organizers are thankful her visit and lecture could be rescheduled.
