Grad sharing love of literacy with inmates
Christine McCracken, a Master of Education student and teacher with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board is working to spread the gift of reading in a non-traditional classroom.
McCracken works with adult learners in a couple of settings, including the Sudbury jail, where she was inspired to organize a book collection for the inmates, who were lacking quality reading materials. In just two weeks, McCraken had collected almost 500 books.
There are roughly 50 inmates currently taking part in the educational programing McCraken runs. The influx of books will provide motivation and inspiration for her students to continue their education.
