A team of 11 Nipissing students are heading to Jamaica for the 2016 iLEAD Jamaica Expedition to learn about business and apply the skills and knowledge they’ve gleaned in class to real business situations. This year marks the fifth consecutive year that students have travelled to the North coast of Jamaica. The iLEAD Jamaica Expedition is one of the many options students have through Nipissing’siLEAD Business Experience Certificate.
You can follow along side the students on Twitter:@ileadjamaica, and on theirblog herewhich will be updated daily. The trip departs on Sunday, February 14, and returns on Sunday, February 21, 2016.
During this year’s expedition, the students are travelling to a new location:Fern Forest Eco Villagein the centre of the Great Fern Forest, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. There, they will get the opportunity to learn about business in a developing country while applying their skills, knowledge and talents to solve real management issues. This year’s projects are focused on working with the ecotourism partner,Fern Forest Eco Village to develop special tourist packages and health promotion for summer camps for children in Jamaica while maintaining a focus on sustainability for people, planet and profit.
“The Expedition is a fantastic opportunity to take our accumulated knowledge and apply these concepts to real life problems,” said Kimberly Knobel, a fourth-year business student who is about to embark on her second iLEAD Jamaica Expedition. “I know the students will be amazed at the level of impact they can have on a business, it is truly remarkable to see your suggestions implemented in a real business and work positively.”
Faculty members Dr. Natalya Brown and Linda Piper are accompanying the students on this years Expedition.
To help offset the cost of the trip, students have been fundraising throughout the school year and thank the School of Business, Student Development and Services and the Campus Store. To learn more about theiLEAD Business Experience Certificate visit:ilead.nipissingu.ca
