NU Edited Ontario Mathematics Journal wins Award
The Ontario Mathematics Gazette, a quarterly publication of the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME) currently edited by Dr. Daniel Jarvis of the Schulich School of Education, will receive the 2016 Affiliate Member Publication Award for outstanding journal publication at the annual conference of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
Founded in 1920, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is the world’s largest mathematics education organization, with 80,000 members and more than 230 Affiliates throughout the United States and Canada. This will be the sixth time that the annualJournal Publication Award has been given out, and the first time that a Canadian Affiliate member has won the award.
Each issue of the Ontario Mathematics Gazette journal, founded in 1962, features 10 regular columns and several new blind-reviewed articles focusing on mathematics and/or mathematics education, and also provides the 2200 OAME members with updates on provincial resources and events. Dr. Timothy Sibbald, also of the Schulich School of Education, currently serves as OAME's President and, as such, is a regular contributor to the Gazette by way of his column, the President's Message. The Abacus, an eight-page insert in each issue of the Gazette which focuses specifically on elementary grade mathematics is co-edited by Mary Lou Kestell and Kath?y Kubota-Zarivnij. Owing to its unique structure, the Gazette represents a team effort by a large group of committed mathematics educators and enthusiasts in Ontario.
