Visiting scholar discussing Indigenization
Nipissing University welcomes Dr. Shauneen Pete to campus for a keynote presentation on Wednesday, January 27. Titled, Unraveling Community in Indigenous Community-University Research Collaborations, the lecture takes place from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Vittorio Fedeli Business Centre (room F210).
Dr. Pete, Executive Lead of Indigenization and Associate Professor in Education at the University of Regina, will be the Indigenous Scholar in Residence at Nipissing from January 25th to 29th, engaging with students, staff and faculty on a number of events, workshops and discussions. The work is part of a larger project, Redefining Aboriginal Student Success, spearheaded by Nipissing’s Office of Aboriginal Initiatives.
Dr. Pete is from Little Pine First Nation in Saskatchewan. She is the Executive Lead: Indigenization at the University of Regina and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education. Dr. Pete served as the Vice-President (Academic) and Interim President at First Nations University of Canada. She is a sought after public speaker, and storyteller. She was co-producer for the Indigenous women's lifestyle television program, The Four, and is co-producer with REZX TV out of Regina.
Dr. Pete’s January 27 presentation was selected as the January keynote presentation for Nipissing’s Centre for Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Arts and Sciences (CICAS).
