Introducing the NUSU Executive for 2017-2018
The 2017 NUSU Executive election results are in! We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who stood as candidates to represent the student body, and introduce you to the new team for the upcoming academic year.Sydney Lamorea, President
I will be going into my fifth, and final year at Nipissing pursuing a degree in Psychology. As an avid volunteer on campus, and in my community, I have had the pleasure of working with Nipissing University's Academic Senate, as well as sitting on the student union's Board of Directors, I have had a blast being a frosh leader 3 years in a row, being an emcee with FIRST Robotics for their events on campus, and getting involved with research on campus. Next year, as I take on the role of President of our Nipissing University Student Union, my intentions are to keep encouraging the welcoming atmosphere that we have on campus which thrives on inclusivity, consent culture, and mental health awareness; continuing with the new student center initiative; and, of course, supporting my fellow students, and executives.
Shane Dunstall, Vice-President Finance
I am currently in my fourth year in Nipissing’s BBA program, having a completed stream in Accounting. I intend to complete a second stream, which will most likely be Marketing. Throughout my time here at Nipissing I’ve always tried to be active in some way, committing to at least one obligation outside of academic pursuits. I’ve volunteered with the Nipissing University Student Alumni (NUSA) fulfilling two separate executive roles as the VP Events and VP Finance in my second and third year, respectively. Currently, I am a Residence Don at Governors House, an executive for the Nipissing University Business Community (NUBC), and I am helping with planning for the CASE ASAP D2 conference that will be coming to Nipissing this February. As VP Finance, I hope to maintain and improve financial transparency, move NUSU toward greater financial independence, and compensate students fairly for the work they do with NUSU.
Cooper Allen, Vice-President Governance & Legal Affairs
I am a second-year student in the Honours Bachelor of Business Administration program, streaming in accounting and finance. Since arriving at Nipissing, I have held positions on campus as a teaching assistant, peer tutor and with the recruitment office as a tour guide. I have also been a volunteer at multiple student orientation days as well as the Ontario Universities Fair. In my role as Vice-President Governance and Legal Affairs, I hope to bring greater awareness on campus to what NUSU can do for students.
Tyrel Somerville, Vice-President Communications
I am in my third year at Nipissing, in the Honours Bachelor of Physical Health Education program, with a minor in Business, specializing in Human Resources. In my first year, I was involved with the NUPHE council, and since then I have been a Frosh Leader, an Executive with Jack.org, a NUSU Crew member as well as a tour guide for Orientation Days. I also work with St. Johns Ambulance in the community on their medical First Responder's unit training towards being an MFR. In my role as Vice-President Communications, I hope to encourage an open dialogue on the issues faced by students, and to bring greater awareness to mental health here on campus.
J'aime Brunet, Vice-President ServicesI am in my second year of Concurrent Education with an Honours double major in Psychology and English, and a minor in French. I am a member of the NUSU Board of Directors and five other committees within NUSU including the Audit and Finance Committee, the Social Committee, NUSU Cares Campaigns Committee, the Ancillary Fees Committee and the Greenhouse/Recycling Committee. In September of this past year I was a Frosh Leader and have previously been an active volunteer with NUSA. I have always been involved in activities around campus and in the community - mostly because I love being a student leader. As Vice-President Services, I am hoping to improve feedback from students and cohesion within the university and in our community by collaborating with groups on campus, and organizing social and academic events that appeal to a variety of students.
