New video highlights Dr. Zarifa Canada Research Chair
Dr. David Zarifa holds the Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Life Course Transitions in Northern and Rural Communities.
His research examines how people in northern and rural areas develop the skills needed to succeed in today’s knowledge-driven economy. He investigates whether some socio-demographic groups are under-represented in certain professions; if schools and programs available in the North influences post-secondary options and career pathways; and what challenges these regions face in attracting and maintaining a skilled workforce.
The work will help guide Canadian youth and their families in making post-secondary choices and pursuing success in their chosen career. Dr. Zarifa’s research will also inform the way governments, policy makers, and education officials think about existing practices and policies.
To help illuminate Dr. Zarifa’s work, Nipissing created this Research Profile video. In it, Dr. Zarifa discusses his research and how he utilizes the new on-campus Research Data Centre, a high-security data lab providing access to Statistics Canada’s confidential, large-scale survey data.
