Diving into a new school year

Nights are getting cooler and autumn is in the air, bringing a feeling of new beginnings and opportunity to campuses all over Canada.  The start of a new school year is on the near horizon and Nipissing is ready to welcome new and returning students to campus.

Residence move-in day gets the ball rolling on Saturday, August 25, with students unloading their stuff, friends getting reacquainted and future friends meeting for the very first time.

Lakers Orientation events begin right away, with two-weeks of activities and events for all students, as well as some targeted to students living in residence and students who purchased a Frosh Kit.  Planned events run the gamut from karaoke nights, barbecues and beach days to academic workshops and library tours.  You can access a full schedule here.

The Nipissing University Student Union’s (NUSU) Frosh Week launches on Tuesday, August 28, with the theme The Wonderful World of Frosh.  NUSU has planned a of social and educational activities to provide a balanced week for the new students.  After a fun and exhausting week of events like The Amazing Race and the Muddy Olympics, students will head out to shine the city on Saturday, September 1, for the annual cystic fibrosis fundraiser, Shinerama. Look for Nipissing students out shining that day, and please give generously. NUSU rounds out Frosh Week on Sunday, September 2, with a community cleanup day and closing ceremonies.

Tuesday, September 4, heralds the start of classes for all students in the Faculty of Applied and Professional Studies, the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Schulich School of Education.

Students in their first year of the Schulich School of Education’s Bachelor of Education program will be in schools around Ontario for their practicum September 4 – 7, allowing them the opportunity to discover the first week of school from the teacher’s perspective.  Students in their second year of the Bed program will be on campus starting September 4.
