Marketing Students Learn from Executive in Residence

Earlier this week, students in Dr. Denyse Lafrance Horning's fourth year applied marketing course had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the career experiences of Dr. George Flumerfelt, School of Business Executive in Residence, CEO of Redpath Mining Inc., and Nipissing University Honourary Degree Recipient (dLitt).

Dr. Flumerfelt focused his presentation on the future of renewable energies and the role that the mining industry continues to play in providing minerals, metals and fuel to address the needs of the global market.  He also spoke to the scope of work that Redpath Mining oversees and the job opportunities that are available within the company in a variety of fields including areas such as accounting, information technology and marketing.

Dr. Flumerfelt shared his education and work journey that has taken him to countries around the world. He reiterated the importance of maintaining a work-life balance  focused on ensuring that every day you go to work excited to take on the challenges that allow you to learn and grow.

In his presentation, Dr. Flumerfelt also shared the history of Redpath Mining Inc. From its inception in 1962 by Dr. Jim Redpath (d.Litt), the inaugural Chancellor of Nipissing University (1994-2002), the company has seen tremendous growth from its original four employees to now having a global workforce of over 7,500 employees. To this day, the Philosophy and Guidelines for Success, established by Dr. Redpath, continue to guide the daily work of the organization.

Thank you to Dr. Flumerfelt for sharing your insights with our students.
