National Chief Shawn Atleo received the honorary degree, Doctor of Education. He delivered the convocation address to the graduates of Nipissing’s Schulich School of Education, Primary/Junior division on Wednesday, June 9, 2010.

Shawn A-in-chut Atleo is the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations and the Chancellor of Vancouver Island University. He is a hereditary Chief from the Ahousaht First Nation, located on Vancouver Island. He served two terms as Regional Chief of the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations. National Chief Atleo’s first and foremost commitment is to ensure the well-being of all First-Nations, Inuit and Métis people and to ensure there is access and opportunity for a healthy and optimistic future. He focuses on empowerment of the people and their communities towards self-determination and hope for the future.
