The School of Nursing at Nipissing University invites applications for Part-Time Course Instructors to teach various undergraduate courses during the Spring/Summer 2026 academic semester. This appointment is offered on a per-course, limited-term basis and is subject to enrollment and operational requirements.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in nursing or a related field
  • At least one degree in nursing (BScN or equivalent)
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Relevant clinical and/or teaching experience aligned with the course content
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in a post-secondary nursing education environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in nursing or a related field, or doctoral study in progress
  • Previous experience teaching in a university or college nursing program
  • Experience with concept-based curricula, curriculum development, or course coordination
  • Experience with simulation-based education, laboratory instruction, or experiential learning
  • Familiarity with learning technologies, learning management systems, and online or hybrid teaching environments
  • Evidence of scholarly or professional engagement related to nursing education or practice

Duties:

  • Responsible for all instruction and evaluation for the portion of the course to which they are assigned
  • Will be available to meet with students outside of the official classroom time
  • Complete mandatory training requirements, review and follow Nipissing University's policies and procedures

NSGD-2007 Concepts in Mental Health and Addictions

NSGD 2007 Concepts in Mental Health and Addictions focuses on key concepts related to mental health, mental illness, addictions and concurrent disorders across the lifespan in the Canadian context. The course emphasizes recovery-oriented and trauma-informed approaches, interprofessional collaboration and evidence-informed practice, with attention to stigma, health care law and therapeutic communication. Students engage in case-based learning and applied activities to strengthen clinical reasoning, professional judgement and relational practice in mental health and addictions care. This course is delivered through an alternative model rather than as a fully pre-built course shell. Instructors work together using shared core content and agreed course materials, coordinating responsibilities for posting content, facilitating learning and maintaining alignment with the School’s curriculum framework, academic standards and regulatory requirements.

NSGD-2246 Chronic Illness and Palliative Health Challenges

NSGD 2246 Chronic Illness and Palliative Health Challenges focuses on key concepts related to the influence of biological, psychological, social, cultural and political factors on living with chronic, progressive and palliative health challenges in the Canadian context. The course emphasizes evidence-informed, strength-based approaches to nursing care and explores illness trajectories, symptom management and the evolving role of the Registered Nurse in supporting individuals and families across the continuum of chronic and palliative care.

This course is delivered through an alternative model rather than as a fully pre-built course shell. Instructors work collaboratively using shared core content and agreed course materials, coordinating responsibilities for facilitation and ensuring alignment with the School’s curriculum framework, academic standards and regulatory requirements.

NSGD-4237Complex and Multi-System Health Challenges

NSGD 4237 Complex and Multi-System Health Challenges focuses on key concepts related to the care of individuals, families and communities experiencing complex and multi-system health challenges. The course supports students in strengthening clinical judgement through case-based learning using a patient-centred, holistic and evidence-informed approach within interprofessional practice. This course is delivered through an alternative model rather than as a fully pre-built course shell. Instructors work collaboratively using shared core content, coordinating responsibilities for facilitation and maintaining alignment with the School’s curriculum framework, academic standards and regulatory requirements.

NSGD-4256 High Acute Nursing

NSGD 4256 High Acuity Nursing focuses on key concepts central to nursing practice in high acuity settings. The course supports students in developing the knowledge, clinical judgement and technical skills required to care for patients experiencing acute and rapidly changing physiological conditions. Emphasis is placed on early recognition of deterioration, evidence-informed interventions and effective communication within interprofessional team practice. The role of the Registered Nurse in coordinating, prioritizing and delivering safe care in high acuity environments is examined through applied and case-based learning.

Instructors work collaboratively using shared core content, coordinating responsibilities for facilitation and ensuring alignment with the School’s curriculum framework, academic standards and regulatory requirements.

Please also comment on your understanding of concept-based learning and how you would or do support students in integrating concepts into clinical reasoning and practice.
