Position Title: STEM Camp Program & Events Assistant

Hours of Work: Discussed upon hire

Rate of Pay: $17.60 per hour + Vacation as determined by HR Policy

Job Description: 

Program & Event Assistants (PEAs) will assist during STEM youth camps by offering support to Camp Supervisors. The Program and Event Assistants support the delivery of the camp plans generated by the Camp Supervisors. PEAs will adhere to all Extended Learning Youth Programming policies as outlined by the Office of Extended Learning and all Nipissing University policies. The successful candidates will report to the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics and have the opportunity to work alongside other undergraduate and graduate students.

Hours of employment vary depending on the availability/schedule and personal interests of the Program & Event Assistant. At minimum, a total of 16 hours will be worked during the March Break STEM Explorers Camp (March 16 - 20, 2026). In your cover letter, please indicate your availability and willingness to assist in the following youth camps:

STEM Explorers Camps (8 am-5 pm)

  • Friday, March 13, 2026
  • Monday, March 16 - Friday, March 20, 2026
  • Friday, April 17, 2026
  • Friday, June 5, 2026

Duties Include:

  • Assist in leading a variety of STEM activities during youth camps
  • Assist with room set-up and take-down for youth camps
  • Provide excellent customer service and open communication to campers (ages 7-12), parents/guardians and staff
  • Ensure all Nipissing University and Extended Learning policies and procedures are followed
  • Communicate any concerns/questions directly to the Camp Supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Background or strong interest in STEM topics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Creativity, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work with learners between the ages of 7-12
  • A minimum of 16 hours of availability between the hours of 8 am to 5 pm during March Break 2026 (Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20, 2026)
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check (12 months or newer) (or willing to obtain as a condition of hiring)
  • Concussion training (or willing to obtain as a condition of hiring)
  • Valid First Aid certificate considered an asset
  • Experience working with children is considered an asset
