Wiidooktaadwin Indigenous Mentorship Initiatives connects university students with local Indigenous youth and community through the Wiidooktaadwin Indigenous Mentorship program and Aasgaabitaadwin Indigenous Youth Leadership Conferences. -
Biidaaban Academic Support
Biidaaban Academic Support (BAS) is a tutoring program for local Indigenous youth in grades 1 to 12, with a focus on mathematics and literacy. Nipissing University volunteer tutors offer one-on-one support, in-person or virtually, either during the school day, or after school hours. -
Biidaaban Youth Group
Biidaaban Youth Group (BYG) is an after school program for Indigenous youth in grades 3, 4, and 5. Nipissing University student employees support youth with their homework and host a total of fifteen cultural, social and artistic activities. -
Biidaaban Community Service-Learning (BCSL)
Pronounced bee-daw-bun, Biidaaban is an Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) term, meaning: ‘the point at which the light touches the earth at the break of dawn.’ BCSL symbolizes the beginning of new partnerships designed to enhance the lives of our students and communities. -
Debwendizon Indigenous Youth Education Gathering
In Anishnaabemwin "debwendizon" is related to the Seven Grandfather Teachings – the teaching of debwewin or truth – and means "to believe in yourself." Debwendizon is an annual Indigenous Youth Education Gathering. -
Indigenous Student Success
The Student Success Coordinator advises new and returning Indigenous (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) students and enhances their educational experience through a holistic approach to support. -
Indigenous Student Self-Identification
At Nipissing University, students of Indigenous cultural and/or ancestral background can choose to self-identify through a voluntary and confidential online process. By doing so, students connect to the on-campus Indigenous student community and have increased access to information about specialized programs and services. -
Indigenous Foundations Program
The Indigenous Foundations Program students have the opportunity to earn university credits in an environment, which encourages growth and learning while respecting cultural and traditional diversity.
