At Nipissing University, access is an important value, and we believe that personal finances should not be a limiting factor for our students. We know that from time to time, unexpected life challenges arise that create barriers for students to continue their studies. The Student Support Fund provides students with urgent financial assistance to help cover immediate, essential expenses because of an emergency.
Tuition fees and University-related fees are not covered by the Student Support Fund. Students whose tuition fees are in arrears should contact the Student Financial Services Office directly to plan for repayment. Students are also encouraged to seek alternate government assistance funding where opportunities exist.
Eligibility Criteria
Students are eligible to apply for the Student Support Fund if you meet the following criteria:
- Registered in courses during the semester that the application to receive funds through the Student Support Fund has been submitted
- Demonstrated hardship or extenuating circumstances that have resulted in a financial crisis
- Submission of application to the Student Support Fund and any requested supporting documents
Students are normally permitted financial support through the Student Support Fund once during their academic career at Nipissing University.
How to Apply
To apply, students complete the application form below. Supporting documentation will be submitted as evidence of the level of financial need in the form of outstanding bills, bank statements, book list, proof of income, and receipts. Students may also be given a brief interview.
How Will I Receive the Funding?
The Student Support Fund is issued in the form of a personal cheque. Students will need the ability to cash a cheque, or you will have to wait one to two weeks for the University to be able to set up direct deposit to your bank account. If you live out of the North Bay area, please be advised that if you receive a cheque, it will be mailed to you. You will need to allow this extra time for you to receive the funds.
