Students shaking off exam stress
Nipissing University and Canadore College are teaming up to help students relieve end of semester pressures with a fun event called Bust your Stress, today, Wednesday, March 18, from 10 a.m. – 2p.m. in the main cafeteria.“As part of Nipissing’s continued commitment to students and their success, we are happy to be able to offer them this fun and informative opportunity to learn about stress and develop their stress management tools,” said Sarah Cantin, Manager of Student Counselling Services at Nipissing. “Students typically have a lot to manage as the school year concludes and it is important for us to help them manage their stress so they can succeed to their full potential."
Nipissing and Canadore students are encouraged to build their own stress busting kits, personalized to their lives and needs. They can choose from baskets of tea, healthy snacks, chocolate, chocolate, bath bombs, worry stones, stress tangles and more.
Students can also learn more about stress management and self-care by downloading relaxation apps and speaking with Megan Van Massenhover, Partnership Coordinator for Good2Talk, a free, confidential and anonymous helpline that provides professional counselling and information and referrals for mental health, addictions and well-being to postsecondary students in Ontario.
“The end of the academic year can be hard on students,” said Kim LaPierre, Team Lead of Canadore’s Student Success Services department. “Between exams and final assignments, the demands placed on learners are high, and they feel it. Our goal is to help students learn how to manage stress and anxiety, a lifelong lesson, so that it doesn’t rule them.”
